• Dane Piedt looks overseas

Dane Piedt, the Cobras spinner now on loan to the Titans, is considering a move overseas.

His agent, Francois Brink, told ESPNCricinfo that the seven-cap Proteas Test off-spinner would prefer a short contract as an ‘overseas player’, but would not be averse to signing a Kolpak deal and drawing a line under his international career.

‘Dane is still keen to play for South Africa and if a Kolpak offer came it would require heavy consideration. At the moment, there is nothing on the table and he is fully committed to South Africa,’ said Brink.

If he does sign as a Kolpak player, he will join Stiaan van Zyl, Simon Harmer and Hardus Viljoen, who have all signed for counties from the 2017 season.

Piedt has found himself on the fringes, both internationally and domestically. The Cobras loaned him out after announcing they preferred to use their young left-arm spinner George Linde. But even at the Titans, his game time has been limited, primarily by the need to fulfil quotas. The need to have three ethnic black players in the side limits opportunities among players of other races.
