The annual Cricket South Africa awards will take place in Pretoria on Saturday. Several accolades will be handed out, including the One-Day Cup Cricketer of the Season.
The candidates: Junior Dala, Aiden Markram, Kyle Verreynne.
Dala was the leading wicket-taker of the One-Day Cup by a long way. He took a dozen more wickets, in four fewer fixtures, than the second-placed Rory Kleinveldt en route to 27 in 11 innings. The Titans star welcomed an ODI debut during the awards’ voting period, too.
Markram’s One-Day Cup campaign was remarkable – and effectively ensured a berth in the Proteas’ World Cup squad ahead of, say, Reeza Hendricks. The talented right-hander required a mere five innings for 542 runs, which included three centuries. He was named Player of the Match after the final, which the Titans won against the Dolphins.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Verreynne is the current holder of the Domestic Newcomer of the Season award, and is in contention for a second CSA accolade in as many years. His consistency with the bat and behind the stumps for the Cape Cobras has the national selectors increasingly interested.
