• CSA adjusts promotion-relegation system

CSA will move to a two-season promotion and relegation cycle in domestic cricket.

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki, speaking to News24, confirmed the system introduced after the franchise model was scrapped in 2021 will remain, but with relegation now decided over two seasons instead of one to give teams greater stability after moving between divisions.

“From the 2026-27 season, we’ll be relegating every two seasons instead of one,” Moseki said. “Whoever gets promoted or relegated will stay up or down for two years.”

Eight sides compete in Division 1 and seven in Division 2, with that 15-team structure set to remain despite ongoing financial restructuring within CSA.

Moseki said the revised promotion-relegation model was backed at both executive and members’ council level, with on-field performance still determining movement between divisions.

The KZN Inland Tuskers are currently bottom of the 2025-26 Division 1 promotion-relegation table, with the Garden Route Badgers (formerly South Western Districts) and Free State Knights leading the race to be promoted from Division 2.
