• Cobras win despite another Amla failure

Proteas batsman Hashim Amla’s poor stretch of form continued in Wednesday’s CSA T20 Challenge fixture between the Cape Cobras and Titans at Boland Park in Paarl.

The Cobras won by three wickets to maintain a relatively commanding lead in the 2019 tournament’s six-team standings.

Amla’s inclusion in South Africa’s squad for the 2019 World Cup squad remains contentious, after another failure at franchise level.

The veteran right-hander’s last eight innings for the Cobras have yielded a mere 92 runs in eight innings. He fell for just three on Wednesday, but the Cobras successfully pursued a 183-run target with seven deliveries to spare, regardless.

The veteran Amla was effectively named in South Africa’s 2019 World Cup squad ahead of the Lions’ Reeza Hendricks earlier this month.

Hendricks and World Cup inclusion Dwaine Pretorius impressed in Wednesday’s CSA T20 Challenge match against the Warriors, but couldn’t prevent defeat.

The Knights and Dolphins, meanwhile, shared a washout at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.

Thursday will see the Cobras host the Lions at Newlands in Cape Town, while the Dolphins will visit the Warriors at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

The semi-finals will be contested on 1 May.
