• Bavuma: Miller still part of Proteas' plans

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma says veteran batsman David Miller remains firmly in contention for future selection despite being unavailable for the three-match ODI series against England.

Miller, who turned out for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, was not considered for the ODIs starting Tuesday at Headingley but will rejoin the squad for the T20I leg of the tour.

The 36-year-old has not featured for the Proteas since the Champions Trophy in March, but Bavuma insists he is “still in the mix” for 50-over cricket and will be reintegrated after completing his franchise commitments.

“The Hundred is done and he’ll fall back into the team,” Bavuma told reporters on Monday. “He’ll prepare with the team accordingly, but David’s still within the mix with the ODI stuff.”

Bavuma also confirmed changes to the Proteas XI following last week’s 278-run defeat to Australia.

Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger return to the attack, while Tony de Zorzi stays at No 4 and all-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Corbin Bosch add balance.

    PETERSON: Breetzke’s never been afraid

The skipper said both Matthew Breetzke and Kagiso Rabada, who picked up injuries on the recent tour to Australia, remain unavailable as a precaution.

“We are still managing certain guys from a workload and injury point of view. KG and Matthew are still on that workload management,” Bavuma explained.

Tuesday’s ODI starts at 2pm (SA time).

Proteas XI: Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton (wk), Temba Bavuma (c), Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Wiaan Mulder, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi.
