• Stars Tye’d up by Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers brought the Melbourne Stars back to earth with a thumping six-wicket victory over the Melbourne-based men, and Andrew Tye’s 4-18 earns him Wednesday’s Turbo Bowler award, writes ANITHA MADIKIZELA.

The Scorchers recorded a much-needed win over the Stars following a dismal run of one win in their last six matches ahead of the encounter in Melbourne. Andrew Tye was the enforcer-in-chief for the visitors, with a sensational return of 4-18 in his four overs during the Stars innings that restricted the home side to just 146-6 from their allotted overs.

Having won the toss and electing to field first, the Scorchers were economical with their bowling, but the floodgates only opened when Andrew Tye was handed the white ball.

The fast bowler decimated the Stars’ middle order with the dismissals of captain Nic Maddinson (2 off 5 balls), wicketkeeper Seb Gotch (18 off 22 balls, 1×4), former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (a 2-ball duck) and, finally, Australian all-rounder Jonathan Merlo (7 off 7 balls, 1×4), all seemingly in the blink of an eye.

The blistering spell earned Tye the Player of the Match award after the Scorchers strolled to a six-wicket victory with 14 balls to spare.

The Scorchers will be hoping to get off the bottom of the league table with a home win against the Sydney Sixers on Sunday, whereas the Stars – sitting pretty in third position – will look to close down the gap to the log leaders when they face off against fourth-placed Adelaide Strikers on Friday.
