    Proteas circle for the kill

Kagiso Rabada will be key on day five Proteas circle for the kill
    Published on January 17, 2018 | Leave a response

South Africa need seven more wickets to win the Test at Centurion and clinch the series 2-0.

India come into the final day of this Test needing 252 runs for victory. No team has ever scored more than 251 runs in the fourth innings to win a Test at Centurion before.

DAY FOUR ANALYSIS: SA stand on brink of series victory

Their chances of reaching that target and breaking that record have been significantly dented. Late on day four, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi combined to claim three India wickets – including the prize scalp of Virat Kohli.

DAY FOUR REPORT: Rampant Ngidi edges SA closer to series win

Cheteshwar Pujara (11) and Parthiv Patel (5) will be at the crease when play resumes this morning. In terms of capable batsmen, India only have Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Ravi Aswhin – who scored 38 in the first innings – to come.

The pitch is offering some assistance in the sense that the bounce is unpredictable. The hosts’ four seamers, as well as off-spinner Keshav Maharaj, will be hard to keep out.

South Africa won the first Test at Newlands by 72 runs. A good performance today will allow them to take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.

    SA 335 (1st innings) – Aiden Markram 94, Hashim Amla 82, Ravi Ashwin 4-113, Ishant Sharma 3-46
    India 307 (1st innings) – Virat Kohli 153, Murali Vijay 46, Morne Morkel 4-60, Vernon Philander 1-46
SA 258 (2nd innings) – AB de Villiers 80, Dean Elgar 61, Mohammed Shami 4-49, Jasprit Bumrah 3-70
    India 35-3 (2nd innings) – Cheteshwar Pujara 19, Lungi Ngidi 2-14, Kagiso Rabada 1-9
India need 252 runs to win
