Their chances of reaching that target and breaking that record have been significantly dented. Late on day four, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi combined to claim three India wickets – including the prize scalp of Virat Kohli.

Cheteshwar Pujara (11) and Parthiv Patel (5) will be at the crease when play resumes this morning. In terms of capable batsmen, India only have Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Ravi Aswhin – who scored 38 in the first innings – to come.
The pitch is offering some assistance in the sense that the bounce is unpredictable. The hosts’ four seamers, as well as off-spinner Keshav Maharaj, will be hard to keep out.
South Africa won the first Test at Newlands by 72 runs. A good performance today will allow them to take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.
