Bumrah is averaging 132.00 this season, the worst figure for any bowler who has bowled at least 25 overs in a single IPL campaign. He has taken two wickets in eight matches, conceding 264 runs from 30 overs.
The numbers are striking because of Bumrah’s standing in the format. Mumbai have long relied on his control with the new ball and at the death, but this season has brought little reward.

His latest match added to the scrutiny. Mumbai posted 243-5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, but failed to defend it as SRH chased down the target to win by six wickets.
Bumrah went wicketless in the defeat, conceding 54 runs from his four overs. That spell underlined the wider issue: Mumbai have struggled to control games with the ball, while their senior fast bowler has not been able to find regular breakthroughs.

A bowling average of 132.00 means Bumrah has conceded 132 runs for every wicket taken in IPL 2026. For a bowler with his record and reputation, it is a rare slump.
Mumbai’s wider bowling problems have played a role, but Bumrah’s figures stand out because of the standard he has set across his T20I and IPL career. His next response will be important as MI look to recover ground against rivals Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
