Warner walks off, mid-innings, after sledge

Australian batsman David Warner walked off the field, mid-innings, after reportedly being sledged during a club cricket fixture in Sydney on Saturday.

Warner is currently serving a 12-month ban from international cricket, after being involved in the ball-tampering saga that rocked Australia’s tour of South Africa earlier this year.

He was playing for Randwick Petersham Cricket Club against Western Suburbs Cricket Club and was on 35 not out at the time.

He was reportedly unhappy with a remark from an opposition player and vacated the field after informing the umpires.

Teammates later convinced him to return to play. The hard-hitting left-hander obliged – and eventually graduated to a century.

‘It would have been nice to get him out but we’ll have to get him after tea. I don’t know how anyone has a slant on what’s happened from 125 metres away,’ Western Suburbs Cricket Club secretary Rick Wayde was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.
