Elgar back in Surrey squad

Proteas opener Dean Elgar has returned to the Surrey squad till the end of the County season.

The 31-year-old will be available for selection for Surrey’s clash against Nottinghamshire which kicks off 29 August.

Elgar played the first three Division One matches before the Proteas’ Test series in Sri Lanka. He will replace Aaron Finch, who has now returned to Australia, as the overseas player in the squad.

The Sri Lanka tour was troublesome for Elgar and his teammates, who were compressively outplayed in the two-Test series with Elgar only managing scores of eight, four, duck and 37. He will aim to regain his form before the Proteas Test series at home against Pakistan.

Elgar joins his former Proteas teammate Morne Morkel, who is in fine form and took 8-99 in their last outing against Lancashire.

Surrey head into the match in fine form having won their last six matches and seven of the nine in Division One so far this campaign.
