India extend rankings lead

Hashim Amla, Kagiso Rabada, Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn hang on to their ICC rankings, as India extend their lead over the Proteas in the Test rankings.

South Africa’s 3-1 defeat in England has not affected their team ranking position, as they hold on to No 2. India have extended the gap between the two sides, however, after their 3-1 victory against Sri Lanka.

Amla, who finished as South Africa’s leading run-scorer in England, scored 329 runs which included three half-centuries, enough to keep him in the top 1o in eighth position.

There’s been a major shift in the top 10 batting rankings, however, as David Warner’s inactivity has pushed him out of the top 10 for the first time in more than two years. The Australia opener lost his spot as a result of Bairstow moving up one spot to sixth after Indian Ajinkya Rahane fell four places to 10th position.

KL Rahul, who equalled the Test record of seven consecutive Test fifties with a half-century in Pallekele,  has moved up two spots to a career high of ninth, pushing Warner down to 11th.

In the bowler rankings, Rabada, Steyn and Philander still hold sixth, eighth and ninth place respectively.
