Lungi Ngidi was encouraged by a Proteas teammate to keep wearing yellow wristbands after Mohammad Nabi asked for them to be removed.
The incident took place during the T20 World Cup match in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, which the Proteas won after a second Super Over.
Nabi told the umpires that the wristbands made it difficult for him to see the ball when delivered.
The umpires initially disagreed with the batsman, with a Proteas player telling Ngidi: “Gebruik dit [use it], sy p*es man, gebruik dit, gebruik dit, sy p*es!”
After reconsidering the situation, the umpires told Ngidi that he could keep his left wristband but had to remove the one on his bowling wrist.
