David Miller plans to chat to Proteas coach Shukri Conrad and captain Temba Bavuma about his future during the five-match T20I series in India.
The 36-year-old is back with the national side having recovered from a grade-one hamstring tear.
With next year’s T20 World Cup on the horizon, and a home ODI World Cup to follow in 2027, the big-hitting batsman says it’s the right moment to open honest conversations.
“I haven’t had good chats yet with Shukri and Temba [regarding his future], but now that I’m back in the mix, it’ll be about opening those kinds of conversations and seeing where we’re at,” Miller said ahead of Tuesday’s series opener in Cuttack.
Miller believes he still brings value through experience, but is also realistic about competition for places.
“There’s a big pool of players coming through. I’d love to be part of the team going forward, but one needs to be real with certain conversations. Experience becomes nothing when you can’t do the job.”
The left-hander says the time away gave him space to reflect and refresh.
“Being home and trying different things with my body was cool. I tapped into a few training regimes … I’m 36 now, and I need to be diligent with a lot of things.”
