• Bavuma: Jansen coming into his own

Temba Bavuma believes Marco Jansen’s rapid rise is pushing him into the conversation as one of the world’s leading all-rounders across all formats.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stunning few weeks in India. After playing a key role in the Proteas’ shock 2-0 Test series win – grabbing 12 wickets and scoring 106 runs – Jansen carried that form straight into the opening ODI in Ranchi.

Jansen’s fearless 70 off just 39 balls almost dragged South Africa to an unlikely chase of 350, as he blasted eight fours and three sixes in a 97-run stand with Matthew Breetzke.

It followed his career-best performance in the second Test, where his 93 and 6-48 broke India open and set up a record 408-run victory.

Bavuma says those performances reflect a young player maturing fast.

“His contributions with bat and ball have been immense for us,” the Proteas captain said. “He’s still a young guy, but he’s already played a lot of international cricket. You can see he’s growing into his own and becoming more comfortable in his skin.”

Bavuma added that South Africa expect match-winning moments from the tall all-rounder.

“Long may his form continue. I’m looking forward to him winning more games for us.”
