• Saffas Abroad: Du Plooy smashes double century

    Leus du Plooy, Dean Elgar and Wayne Madsen were the standout South African performers in the latest round of England’s County Championship.

    County Championship Division One

    Former Proteas captain Dean Elgar continued his excellent form with another century, scoring 118 (17 fours, one six) as Essex beat Somerset by seven wickets.

    Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne helped Nottinghamshire claim a 10-wicket win against Warwickshire by scoring 83 (nine fours, four sixes).

    Former Proteas seamer Kyle Abbott took 3-27 in the first innings before grabbing 5-72 in the second but couldn’t prevent Hampshire from suffering a 20-run defeat to Surrey.

    David Bedingham hit 93 (eight fours) for Durham in an innings-and-44-run loss against Yorkshire.

    County Championship Division Two

    Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen struck a superb 198 off 238 deliveries (20 fours, four sixes) in an innings-and-229-run win against Kent.

    Former SA Emerging batsman Leus du Plooy put on a captain’s display, scoring 263* (21 fours, two sixes) for Middlesex in their innings-and-67-run win against Gloucestershire.

    Joburg-born former England international Keaton Jennings scored 48 (four fours) before adding 47 off 33 deliveries (five fours, three sixes) as Lancashire cruised to a seven-wicket victory against Glamorgan.

    Former Proteas batsman Colin Ingram contributed a second-innings score of 37 (five fours) for Glamorgan.
