• Proteas-Windies series set to be reduced

The Proteas’ only home series this summer, against the West Indies, could be shortened.

South Africa are scheduled to host the Windies for five T20Is between 27 January and 6 February. But with the T20 World Cup set to begin on 7 February, ESPNcricinfo reports that CSA may be forced to cut at least two fixtures.

The final two matches of the series are currently pencilled in for 3 and 6 February, leaving little to no time for either team to travel to India and Sri Lanka.

ESPNcricinfo says the ICC has asked all participating nations to confirm by 5 September how many warm-up games they want before the tournament. That decision affects when teams must report to the host countries, with arrival windows ranging from four days before the opener to as much as a week earlier.

Even if South Africa and the West Indies skip warm-ups, CSA will still have to cut matches from the series because of the clash.

The SA20 adds to the squeeze, with the lucrative franchise competition only finishing on 25 January. That prevents CSA from moving the fixtures earlier.

Venues under consideration for the Windies series include Boland Park, Newlands, Buffalo Park, Centurion and the Wanderers.
