A century stand between Jordan Hermann and Zubayr Hamza kept South Africa A in the fight on day three of the first four-day match against New Zealand A in Potchefstroom.
The pair put on an unbroken 103-run partnership to take the hosts to 106-1 at stumps on Tuesday, still needing 392 for victory at the JB Marks Oval after a day that saw 15 wickets tumble.
Opener Hermann struck his second fifty of the match with 57* off 85 balls (nine fours), while Hamza finished the day unbeaten on 46.

Earlier in the day, Hermann had made 50 off 87 balls (seven fours) as SA A were dismissed for 236, having resumed on 137-3. Captain Marques Ackerman top-scored with 69 off 52 balls (12 fours).
For the tourists, seamer Matthew Fisher was the standout with 6-43.
South Africa A’s bowlers then hit back. Schalk Engelbrecht, who earlier contributed a counter-attacking 35, claimed 4-47, while Tsepo Ndwandwa followed up his seven-for in the first innings with 2-52.
New Zealand A had started strongly at 34-0, but Engelbrecht’s burst turned the tide, and the visitors eventually declared on 126-7, setting the hosts a target of 499.
SA A made a shaky start to their chase when opener Lesego Senokwane was dismissed for three, before Hermann and Hamza got them to the close without any further damage.
