• Mbatha’s five-for fires SA U19s to huge win

Bandile Mbatha claimed a sensational 5-16 to bowl South Africa U19 to a commanding 226-run victory over Zimbabwe U19 in the Youth ODI Tri-Series in Harare on Monday.

The KZN Dolphins paceman produced a devastating seven-over spell, including one maiden, as the hosts were skittled for just 77 in 23.5 overs chasing 304.

Earlier, Muhammad Bulbulia (75 off 68 balls; 11 fours), Adnaan Lagadien (53 off 72; six fours), Vihan Pretorius (52 off 57; four fours) and Daniel Bosman (54* off 50; six fours) all struck half-centuries at Harare Sports Club.

Openers Bulbulia and Lagadien put on 129 for the first wicket, before Armaan Manack (43) added 58 with Pretorius. Bosman then provided the finishing touches as South Africa posted 303-6.

Zimbabwe made a bright start through Dhruv Patel (21) as they reached 29-0 in the fifth over. But JJ Basson (1-19) removed Rowyn Konson (eight) before Mbatha tore through the middle order, dismissing Jayden Matsikenyeri (15) and Benny Zuze (nought) off successive deliveries and then bowling Patel.

With Zimbabwe reeling at 58-6, Mbatha completed his five-for before Paul James (3-5) and Enathi Khitshini (1-3) cleaned up the tail.

The result moved South Africa to the top of the table ahead of their final group match against Bangladesh on Wednesday. The two sides will also meet in Sunday’s final.
