• Bavuma up for top CSA award

Temba Bavuma has been nominated for the SA Men’s Player of the Year award after leading the Proteas to their maiden World Test Championship title.

CSA on Thursday confirmed the nominees for the 2024-25 CSA Awards, which will take place at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on 31 July. The ceremony will be broadcast live on SuperSport from 7pm.

Bavuma is up for the top men’s honour alongside Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Ryan Rickelton and Kagiso Rabada. He is also among the five nominees for Men’s Test Player of the Year and features in the SA Fans’ Player of the Year category.

The Proteas made history during the 2024-25 season, winning the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s and reaching their first T20 World Cup final.

The Proteas Women also continued to impress on the global stage, qualifying for their second successive Women’s T20 World Cup final, while the SA U19 Women made it to the final of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

In the running for the SA Women’s Player of the Year award are Annerie Dercksen, Marizanne Kapp, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Laura Wolvaardt.

Domestically, the Central Gauteng Lions successfully defended their T20 Challenge title and shared the 4-Day Series spoils with the Northerns Titans. The KZN Dolphins claimed the One-Day Cup, while in the women’s competitions, Western Province retained the T20 title and the Lions won the One-Day tournament.

This year’s nominees were selected by a panel including broadcaster Crystal Arnold, journalists Firdose Moonda and Khanyiso Tshwaku, SA U19 convenor of selectors Patrick Moroney, and former Proteas seamer Vernon Philander, with statistical input from CSA’s Andrew Samson.

The CSA Pathway Awards will take place earlier in the day, recognising the rising stars of age-group cricket and those working behind the scenes to grow the game in South Africa.
