• Saffas Abroad: Faf keeps on firing in MLC

    Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis and Durham’s Colin Ackermann were among the standout South African performers overseas this past week.

    George-born Netherlands international Colin Ackermann hammered 83 runs off 33 balls (seven fours, six sixes) in Durham’s 49-run victory against Nottinghamshire.

    Glamorgan’s Colin Ingram scored 55 off 33 balls (six fours, two sixes) in a two-run win against Somerset.

    Wayne Madsen hit 53 off 40 deliveries (five fours, two sixes) in Derbyshire’s 42-run defeat to Lancashire. He went on to score 38* off 25 (seven fours) in a seven-wicket win against Yorkshire.

    Donovan Ferreira scored 39 off 20 balls (three fours, two sixes) in the Texas Super Kings’ one-run loss to the San Francisco Unicorns.

    Former Proteas batsmen Heinrich Klaasen hit 48 off 39 balls (four sixes) for the Seattle Orcas in an eight-wicket defeat to the Washington Freedom.

    Cape Town-born USA international Shadley van Schalkwyk took 3-24 in the LA Knight Riders’ six-run loss to MI New York. He followed up with 2-44 in the Knight Riders’ 11-run win against the San Francisco Unicorns.

    Faf du Plessis continued his prolific form in the MLC with another fine knock, scoring 91 off 52 balls (six fours, four sixes) in the Texas Super Kings’ 51-run win against the Seattle Orcas.

    Welkom-born USA international Andries Gous scored 46* off 34 balls (seven fours) as the Washington Freedom cruised to a six-wicket victory against MI New York.
