Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has admitted to failing a drug test due to the use of a recreational substance, leading to a provisional suspension.
The 29-year-old returned home from the IPL last month, citing personal reasons at the time. He had appeared in two matches for the Gujarat Titans, taking two wickets before leaving.
In a public statement, Rabada expressed deep regret and apologised for letting down his supporters, emphasising that playing cricket is a privilege he values deeply.
He stated, “I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations.”

Although back in India, Rabada remains committed to returning to the sport with renewed passion and dedication. Neither the IPL nor the ICC has officially announced any formal suspension.
Rabada, currently ranked second in the world in Test bowling, is still expected to lead South Africa’s bowling attack in the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s, scheduled for 11-15 June. He recently reached the milestone of 300 Test wickets in October.
