• Analysis: Faf, Rabada lead Saffa charge

Faf du Plessis and Kagiso Rabada have been sensational in IPL so far, and here’s a look at how the South Africans have been doing in the 2020 edition.

    Kagiso Rabda

The Proteas speedster sits at the top of the wicket-taking charts having taken 12 wickets in his five matches at an average of 12.50 and a strike rate of 10.0.

Rabada’s best bowling performance of the season came against RCB after his 4-24 helped the Capitals to a big win. He has taken three catches in the field and contributed 15 runs with the bat.

Rabada is no doubt one of the reasons why the Capitals are joint leaders of the standings.

    Faf du Plessis

Former Proteas captain Du Plessis has started the campaign like a house on fire, smashing 28 fours and eight sixes on his way to amassing 282 runs at an average of 94.

In a campaign where CSK have struggled, Du Plessis has been one of the rare shining lights scoring 54*, 74, 43, 22 and 87* with a strike rate of 150.

Du Plessis is the second-highest run-scorer in this year’s tournament and if he continues his brilliant form, can definitely finish as the Orange Cap winner.

    AB de Villiers

‘Mr 360’ has been at his flamboyant best for most of RCB’s matches thus far. De Villiers has posted scores of 51, 28, 55, 12* and 9 for an average of 51.66 at a 176.13 strike rate.

De Villiers has hit 15 fours, seven sixes and taken three catches in the five matches he has played in.

    AB

    Anrich Nortje

The tall paceman has performed well during his debut IPL season, taking seven wickets with a best of 3-33 to help the Capitals to impressive results and leading the table jointly. He has formed a great partnership with Rabada and is gaining a lot of valuable experience from bowling against the best in the world.

    Lungi Ngidi

Ngidi has not seen much action this year, but the paceman took three wickets in CSK’s opening match. He then followed that up with an expensive performance against the Royals returning figures of 1-56 in his four overs. Ngidi has not played a match since.

    David Miller

Miller has had a disappointing competition so far, only playing in one match where he failed to trouble the bowlers and was run out for a duck without facing a ball.
