• Ingram joins Welsh Fire for The Hundred

Former Proteas batsman Colin Ingram has been selected by the Welsh Fire for next year’s The Hundred – the England and Wales Cricket Board’s new limited-overs tournament.

Ingram played 31 ODIs and T20Is between 2010 and 2013 before forging a successful career with Glamorgan in English county competition. He has also played in several domestic T20 competitions around the world, including stints for the Delhi Daredevils and St Lucia Zouks in the Indian Premier League and Caribbean Premier League, respectively.

He was among several stars chosen by the eight franchises on Thursday. The Fire will be accompanied by the Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave at the inaugural tournament.

Former Proteas coach Gary Kirsten will work with the Fire, while countryman Quinton de Kock has registered for The Hundred player draft later this month.

‘The South African is relatively still young but already has a batting CV to rival anyone in world cricket. His fast hands are an asset behind the stumps, too. He scores his runs fast, and can either bat up the order or in the latter stages when an acceleration is needed. Fresh from winning the 2019 IPL with Mumbai Indians, he would be an asset to any team,’ read a statement on The Hundred’s official website.

The hard-hitting De Kock has played for the Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He recently captained the Proteas during a 1-1 T20I series draw with India, and will continue as the Cape Town Blitz’s local marquee player in the Mzansi Super League later this year.
