• Kallis no longer Knight Riders’ head coach

Former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis has resigned as the Kolkata Knight Riders’ head coach.

Kallis played for the Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League for several seasons before succeeding Englishman Trevor Bayliss as coach in 2015.

‘After nine fantastic years with KKR since 2011, as a player, mentor and head coach, it’s time to explore new opportunities,’ said Kallis.

‘I would to like to thank the owners, management and fellow players for many happy memories.’

Kolkata won 32 of 61 matches during Kallis’ tenure as coach – and qualified for three consecutive play-offs in 2016, 2017 and 2018. They finished in fifth position in 2019, though.

The veteran all-rounder scored 1295 runs and took 42 wickets in 56 matches for the Knight Riders between 2011 and 2014, which included title-winning campaigns. His IPL career also featured a stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

‘Jacques has been an integral part of the KKR family and will always remain so,’ added franchise chief executive officer Venky Mysore.

‘We will be exploring ways of working with Jacques as we pursue our vision of establishing the Knight Riders brand as a global brand.’

Kolkata have also parted ways with assistant cocah Simon Katich, who will work with the Manchester Originals during the inaugural edition of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s The Hundred.
