• Roy hits 180 in England win

Jason Roy made 180 off 151 balls at the MCG on Sunday as England beat Australia by five wickets in the first ODI.

Roy made the highest score by an England batsman in ODI cricket, breaking Alex Hale’s previous record of 171 against Pakistan in 2016.

Roy, who was eventually caught in the 43rd over, and a rejuvenated Joe Root (91 not out) helped England reach the target of 305 with seven balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, Aaron Finch scored 107 off 119 balls for Australia, but captain Steve Smith admitted after the match that his team had needed to score in the region of 350 rather than the 304-8 they ended up posting.
