• Viljoen rips through Warriors

The Highveld Lions made it two wins out of two as they defeated the Warriors by 203 runs in their Sunfoil Series clash at the Wanderers.

The defending champions had Stephen Cook and Hardus Viljoen to thank for their success. Cook, who made yet another statement to the national selectors with his unbeaten 168 in the second innings, was named Man of the Match, but it could have easily gone to Viljoen, who took 10 wickets in the match for the second time running.

It proved another disappointing conclusion for the Warriors, who have failed to score more than 300 in the series so far, having lost their opening match against the Titans.

Half-centuries from Qaasim Adams and Nicky van der Burgh allowed the Lions to post 291, before Viljoen’s 6-44 saw the Eastern Cape outfit cleaned out for 163. Cook’s impressive knock gave the Warriors a daunting 422 to chase down, which was easily dealt with by the Lions.

The other two encounters were finished inside three days, as the Titans thrashed the disappointing Cape Cobras by 10 wickets, while the Dolphins notched up their first victory of the series, defeating the Knights by 63 runs.
