• Top IPL contracts for Wiese, Morris

Twenty20 International all-rounder David Wiese was contracted by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the hefty sum of approximately 5.4 million rand during Monday’s Indian Premier League player auction.

Wiese will join a star-studded squad, which includes the services of Proteas ODI captain AB de Villiers and West Indian big-hitter Chris Gayle, for the lucrative T20 tournament in April and May.

Fast bowler Chris Morris, who represented the Chennai Super Kings in 2014, moved to the Rajasthan Royals for about 2.6 million rand.

‘Very excited to be joining up with the Rajasthan Royals. Thank you for all the well wishes,’ tweeted Morris.

Chennai, meanwhile, recruited seamer Kyle Abbott for almost 600,000 rand. Wiese’s Titans team-mate Albie Morkel and Warriors Kingpin Rusty Theron went to the Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan respectively – for a similar amount to Abbott.

‘Very happy to be part of the Chennai family this year. Thanks for the messages everyone,’ enthused Abbott on Twitter.

Test skipper Hashim Amla, former limited-overs captain Johan Botha, all-rounder Wayne Parnell and left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe were among several other South Africans unable to secure an IPL contract.
