• SA v NZ: The numbers game

    Here are all the facts and figures relating to South Africa and New Zealand in ODI cricket ahead of their crunch World Cup semi-final in Auckland on Tuesday.

    1) The two teams have played each other in 61 ODIs, with South Africa winning 36, New Zealand winning 20 and 5 matches have been declared no results.

    2) South Africa have scored 300 runs or more 4 times. They made 300-6 in Brisbane in 1998, 306-6 in Johannesburg in 2003, 314-7 at Centurion in 1994 and 324-7 at Centurion in 2000.

    3) New Zealand have never scored 300 against South Africa. Their highest was 298-9 in Brisbane in 1998, followed by a 287-6 in Kimberley in 2000 and a 279-8 in Kimberley in 2013.

    4) South Africa’s lowest score in a completed match was 108, in Mumbai in 2006.

    5) New Zealand’s lowest score in a completed innings was 134, in Cape Town in 1994.

    6) There have been 15 ODI hundreds scored by South African batsmen against New Zealand.  Dave Callaghan’s unbeaten 169 at Centurion in 1994 is the highest.     7) There have been 7 ODI hundreds scored by New Zealand batsmen against South Africa. Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 145 in Kimberley is the highest. The others are: 134 no Stephen Fleming, 108 Adam Parore and Stephen Fleming, 103 Roger Twose, 102no Chris Cairns and 100no Nathan Astle.

    8) Three South African bowlers have taken 5 wickets in an innings against New Zealand. They are Makhaya Ntini (5-31 in Melbourne, 2002), Morne Morkel (5-38 in Napier, 2012) and Wayne Parnell (5-57 at Centurion, 2009).

    9) Only one New Zealand bowler has taken a five-for against South Africa. Kyle Mills took 5-25 in Durban in 2007.
